English 원문
Most stones lay silent under the pale light, but one thin column beside the water quivered with each breeze. Celina steadied her knees on the blue-grey gravel, searching the dry stone pile for a slate that could start a taller answer to that wavering tower. Clyde crouched beside her; the clean metallic smell from the wind-exposed river edge brushed past both of them while a speckled wagtail watched from a steel-coloured boulder. A smooth disc caught Celina’s intrigue, yet Clyde’s hand reached at the same moment. The slab had been warmed by the late sun, and a faint swirl of dust rose as their fingers met its surface.
Celina loosened her grip first. She tugged a smaller disc free and rolled it toward her own base, which rested on a frost-white platform stone. Clyde nodded, slid the contested slab onto his wider foundation, and began his quest for a sturdy second layer. A nearby tower, balanced by earlier visitors, leaned; its top pebble slipped and bounced against the knotted stems of a dried bramble caught between larger rocks. The impact scattered pebbles that rattled toward both fresh stacks, and the wagtail hopped aside, wings flashing silver in the shade. Celina shifted her weight; the ground’s click carried through her tower, revealing a tilt she had missed.
Another gust skimmed over the water, stronger than before. The thin column from the opening shivered once more, toppled, and a rolling stone brushed against Clyde’s ankle before settling. Without speaking, he tilted his own slab slightly inward; Celina mirrored the angle on her side, aligning her pile with the wind’s path. Their twin adjustments locked each tower for the moment, and the wagtail settled again, tail flicking. The column that had quivered at the start now lay in a loose fan, its silver faces catching the last light while two steadier silhouettes rose beside it.
