English 원문
The fence wire vibrated, lifting a faint metallic hum that rose and dipped with each passing gust. Fenna paused beside the cedar post and, in the unstable light, noticed a thin ribbon of yellow dust clinging to one radial line of a dew-laden spider web. The strand shivered, yet held; each droplet trembled like a miniature bell. A separate rhythm clicked nearby where water, gathering at the lowest spiral, released itself every few breaths and struck a fallen leaf with a flat tap. Two pulses—hum and drip—worked side by side, unaware of each other, while the small smear of color marked their silent intersection.
She leaned closer. The web’s backlit grandiosity flashed only from a narrow angle; one step sideways and it became almost unobtrusive, the silk reduced to a faint line of chill air against her knuckle. Beyond the fence, a blossoming jasmine hedge exhaled a soft sweetness that drifted in and out of the breeze, and the hum of the wire slipped across it like a bow on string. Fenna raised a fingertip, halted mid-air, then barely touched a single radial. The silk flexed, bounced, and reset, its resilience startling for something finer than hair. A droplet nearby jolted loose, added one extra beat to the drip cadence, then the rhythms parted again.
Her eyes followed the yellow dust along several spokes until it vanished beneath the spider resting at the hub, leg on leg in quiet hierarchy over the trembling architecture. At first the dust looked accidental, perhaps wind-blown soil. When she turned the cedar post slightly, bark grains rasping under her palm, the wire pitch sharpened; at that same instant a fresh breeze shook the jasmine hedge, sending a puff of gold pollen through the air. Particles landed on the web and glowed beside the earlier smear. The trace re-described itself: not soil at all, but pollen caught during earlier gusts, proof that sound, scent, and silk were already working together.
A stronger gust arrived, syncing the wire’s note with the next falling droplet; both struck the same beat, and the whole web quivered in a single shimmering chord that rippled from hub to anchor. Fenna rocked back on her heels, steadying herself, then waited instead of interfering. When the vibration softened, she slid a flat twig beneath the lowest spiral, lifting it just enough for the pooled water to spill free and break the newfound duet. The lingering hum of the fence wire hovered while Fenna pressed her fingertip against the cooled cedar post.
