English 원문
Yara paused in the doorway, watching Finn rinse a finished cyanotype under the slow faucet near the window. A steady drip from the rinse tray tapped the stone floor every fourth breath, a private metronome nobody conducted. Across the bench, Finn lifted glass from another frame and settled it back with quicker double taps each time. Two rhythms, one patient and one brisk, filled the sunlit room while the prints darkened quietly on the line. Yara stood still, cataloguing the sounds before approaching, her perception lingering on how rarely they landed together. Something about that gap in timing held her longer than usual, like a half-finished question in air.
She finally crossed the room, sliding a lemon-green sheet from the folder and laying it flat on the wood. Pressed fern fronds waited in a tray, midribs arching like a pocket-sized labyrinthine forest; her fingertip traced one slender spine. She chose three ferns, arranged them by weight, and lowered a square of glass whose heft settled the arrangement into silence. The glass felt denser than yesterday, a small tug on her wrist reminding her that gravity judges every careless tilt. Finn glanced over with a nod, but neither spoke; cognition seemed suspended, replaced by the uncomplicated ceremony of placement. Together they carried the frame outside, sunlight washing the coated surface, olive seeping across the exposed margins.
Back inside, the rinse drip resumed its four-second beat, and Finn’s quicker taps returned as he cleaned another frame. Yara timed her breath between them, yet the moment he set his glass down precisely when water struck stone, the table vibrated. That blunt coincidence amplified both sounds into a single hollow thud, and the glass plate slid half a breadth across the paper. A forgotten feather, left by another child between paper and pane, dragged with it, scoring a pale crescent in the coating. The mark spread while she watched, a metaphor written by chance, thicker where the feather’s shaft pressed hardest. Water received the slide of pigment without complaint, the tray serving as a silent repository for that fleeting colour. She hesitated, fingertips hovering, then decided to let the accident stand, surrendering authorship to weight and timing.
Yara lifted the vibrating frame, carried it alone to the wash tray, and dipped the sheet into the cool water. While yellow dissolved and blue crystallised, she hung the dripping print on the line, stepped back, and walked toward the open door. The feather remained under the glass, pinned like a compass needle by the frame's own weight. Beside it, the new print swung gently; the pale crescent glowed against deepening blue, drops pooling on the bench.
