Woven baskets turned slowly on display hooks, pushed by small passing hands. At one end, a potter repeated an old tradition. He turned a narrow wheel that shaped wet clay into bowls.

The spinning lid caught the squirrel’s eye. It leapt to the stall roof and dropped beside the lid, paws splayed on the cool tin. One quick push sent the circle twirling again. Metal scraped against stone, leaving a thin ringing note. The lid slowed near a basket of dried figs, so the squirrel nudged it from the opposite side. A vendor laughed, 'The market toys itself today!' Shoppers paused and watched the tiny commotion, yet no one moved the squirrel away.
