English 원문
A faint lavender scent lingered around the narrow ladder to the attic hatch.
Cleo climbed carefully, a straw broom under one arm and a cloth over her shoulder. She always dusted the skylight each Saturday, straight after breakfast at home. Thin light filtered through the glass and painted pale lines across the slanted beams. She tapped the frame and loose dust slipped down like dry snow. Warm air hugged the roof peak, and a slow creak drifted from an old trunk.
The sun climbed higher, and the beam at the skylight suddenly shifted across her path. Light bounced off a curved glass jar and sprayed bright shards across the dusty floorboards. One wandering ray crawled toward a linen pouch that waited under a shelf. When the ray slipped inside, the fabric glowed orange, as if a hidden ember breathed there. Cleo paused to observe the color, her broom bristles resting against her boot. The glowing pouch turned an ordinary chore into a quiet mystery inside the slanted room. She bent lower and watched the pouch bulge where the beam met a hidden shape. A small mirror lay inside and began to reflect thin sparks onto the low ceiling. Those sparks drifted over the dust motes and circled her moving fingers. Cleo laughed, "That small mirror throws brighter games than any lantern I carried downstairs!" A passing cloud softened the glare, yet one orange fleck remained on the beam.
Cleo slipped the mirror back, letting the pouch settle against the shadowed boards. She brushed new dust from her sleeve, lifted the broom again, and continued sweeping under the skylight. The orange fleck lingered beside her boots, steady, unexplained, and warm against the dark board. Cleo stepped down one rung, fresh specks of light resting on her shoelaces.
