English 원문
"Try this hollow twig."
Otto slid it across the rail, and a thin hum rose between the planks. Shea leaned closer; the sound trembled like a tiny drum hiding inside the wood. Leaves brushed the roof, adding a soft rattle that mixed with the hum. Sunlight slipped between the slats and laid bright stripes over their knees. A mild scent of sap hovered around the rail and mixed with fresh bark. A lone firefly drifted under the rail and blinked twice above the bucket pulley.
Curious, Shea tapped the twig again, this time near a knot where two boards met. The note deepened, and a slow vibration travelled into their palms and up their elbows. He shifted to the corner post and dragged the twig sideways; a bright ring echoed outward. Otto grinned at the change and drummed a short rhythm with his knuckles on the floor. Their twin knocks met in the hollow space and set a low resonance through the trunk. Boards answered with a hollow creak, then settled into silence like a natural ceremony of timber.
They thought the sounds were done, yet the bucket rope beside them twitched and slapped the wall. The sudden slap shook a small watch loose from Otto’s pocket; it rolled toward the open gap. Shea caught it just before it fell, and both children burst into quiet giggles. Below, crickets held their night vigil, their steady chirps weaving through the floorboards and rising in waves. Wind thickened above the roof and muffled every echo that had danced between the rails. Moisture crept across the planks and dulled the bright ring to a flat thud. A slow drip gathered under the roof and hammered the bucket, drowning the last trace of their play.
