English 원문
"Catch this yarn tail."
Erik pinched the thin strand between thumb and finger, and Tobias looped the other end around an empty wooden bobbin. The loom stood firm, yet the pedal under Remy’s foot creaked with each steady press. Light from the high window crossed the warp, and gentle warmth spread across the plank floor. The taut threads gave a faint hum whenever Tobias brushed them, a quick tactile buzz against his knuckles. Nearby, a basket leaned on one edge; each new skein made its rim tilt and wobble.
As the bobbin grew heavier, the leaning basket finally lost balance. A small carved lobster, tied to a scrap ribbon as a playful weight, slid from the top and toppled onto the pedal. The sudden drop forced the pedal lower for a breath, and the shed of threads opened wider than before. Tobias steadied the shuttle, but one bright strand jumped free and waved like a loose ribbon. Two colored threads seemed to keep in touch across the growing cloth, crossing again despite the slip. A smooth groove along the shuttle recommended many seasons of practice by older hands, and Tobias copied the calm rhythm he had watched for weeks. He lifted the lobster weight, felt its cool surface, and placed it farther back where it could not roll.
Fresh dust drifted through the sunbeam, then settled on the still pedal. Tobias guided the shuttle through one last gap and pressed the weft flat. He set the filled bobbin beside the folded cloth.
