English 원문
Petra pressed two fingers to the cotton, expecting cool tautness; a faint damp oval met her instead, and her hand rose a breath. The white plane arced like a shallow field walling the puppet zone, while the lamp sat back on its column, a safe span above sleeve height. A flat horse held close threw a crisp outline the length of a hand; pulled a forearm behind, it grew enormous and blurred at the rim. The rack waited further off, its tiers receding in shallow steps, each peg a small coordinate in a quiet grid. Dana angled a bamboo rod toward her—no hurry in it, only space measured out and offered. “You okay?” Dana asked. “Fine,” Petra said, though her gaze held on the ovaling mark, a trace that did not belong to lines or story, only to touch left behind.
Intermission pressed the silhouettes into pause, yet the geometry stayed alive: screen here, lamp there, rack beyond, and the egress at stage left a narrow slit of hallway depth. Bamboo rods lay in a loose network along the lower tier, crossing, diverging, setting faint diagonals through the air. Petra slid a hand toward a figure perched near the column and halted mid-reach; the lamp’s guard sat above that path like a ceiling that would not yield, so her hand dropped and her feet took the longer arc to the cool side. The second tier offered three riders, a bird, and then a gap the size of a palm spread wide. Dust etched a shallow ring around that gap, a tiny crater with a clean circle in its center where something once stood. Dana glanced at it without speaking; the empty peg sat between crowded silhouettes the way a missing brick alters a wall’s span, not collapsing it, only changing how each course leans.
Petra returned to the cotton and brought the moon—concave and silvered along its leather rim—sideways toward the screen. Close, it cleaned its edge to a needle; eased back, it broadened into a soft bowl that could cradle another shape. She held it over the damp oval, then lowered until leather nearly touched fabric, and the circle inside the shadow matched the curve she carried. Not a random blot, then; the ring fit something round, like the base of a figure once pressed here, its origin left unspoken but its diameter exact. “Left rider next?” Dana said, voice low and even. “I’ll cover,” Petra answered, the word small as she chose the moon over the empty peg and kept her wrist steady. The oval had already thinned at its rim—drying, slowly, along a perfect edge—while the next cue waited on distance and air. Petra steadied the concave moon against the cotton and held it.
