Where does the fog on the jar go?

Remy's elbows rest on the smooth wooden counter. A pale sticky ring dries there. His sleeve touches its dry edge. Warm steam brushes his face.

At the stove, a covered pot rattles softly. Steam rises and fogs the cool glass jar. The fog thins slowly in the warmth. "It is almost ready," the father says.

A faint cinnamon smell lifts. A cool draft carries it away. On the board sits a small castle cutter. A toy worker stands beside it.

Remy turns his eyes back to the jar. A clear stripe opens on the glass. A drop slides slowly down to the ring. Green leaves of the plant show on the sill.

More fog is gone; the glass looks clean. Near the rim, a thin wet crescent clings.
