English 원문
Nell slid the shallow basket onto the drying platform, as she did each warm morning, and set her toes against the straight board.
Amos worked the wooden rake along the nearest pan, the blade lifting a faint corduroy of salt from the skin of brine.
Four rectangles lay ahead in sequence, a path running straight between water and boards to the fence.
A low fence marked the boundary, its small wooden turnstile narrowing the entry to one steady width between posts.
Beside the pan, a dry ledge rose a hand higher than the water line and held their tools out of spray.
By midmorning the sun lifted high, and the geometry turned crisp; edges sharpened, distances compressed, and the far wall seemed nearer.
Nell reached for the basket, then hovered, her eyes tracking how each ridge cast a longer face across the shallow span.
The theatrical glare off the pans flattened the sky, while the salt planes lifted in relief against the rectangle of water.
She pinched a corner of crust with two fingers and found stiffness along the rim where crystal met board.
Amos paused at the midpoint and rested the rake on the ledge, the handle spanning the gap like a bridge between trays.
He tipped his hat brim and said, "Clear span today, from wall to wall."
Nell shifted two steps to the left, aligning her body with the long axis so the rectangles matched her sightlines.
Rake lines gathered into fields of corduroy, close-set ribs advancing toward her, and the near corner grew taller than her ankle.
She had planned to lift from the center, yet the pooled light made the perimeter read as the true high ground.
Her hand withdrew, then set the basket on the outer board where the angle broke and the slope across each pan revealed itself.
From there she skimmed small crystals inward, keeping the little mounds low so Amos could gather them later without a lift.
He watched the line form and said, "That edge carries it," his voice calm, the lines themselves visible across the span.
Beyond the fence, the small turnstile sat still, its arms squared to the path and the distance back to the road.
The afternoon air made the horizon sway in heat, and the rectangles tightened, every span exact enough to measure by eye.
Nell looked once across the four pans, then nudged the basket into shade, salt arcing low from her scoop to its center.
The rake returned to the ledge, brine beads gone now, the wood dry and pale against the board that kept the water back.
On the drying platform, the same basket sat lower than before, a white mound holding its shape under the high, unblinking light.

“The rake drew up a corduroy of salt, ribs marching from the pan’s edge toward her.”
- stiffness
“She felt a stiffness where the salt crust gripped the board's rim.”
- theatrical
“A theatrical glare flared off the pans, turning the noon sky into a pale sheet.”

- ledge
“He balanced the rake on the dry ledge, its handle bridging the trays.”
- turnstile
