At the doorway, an older sibling reads.
Maren watches the drops.
One coloured pencil lies on the sill.
It slowly rolls toward the coin.
It taps the edge and pauses.
The coin turns a little and settles.
Pages rustle.
The older sibling says, "I hear the kettle."
Rain taps near, and the kettle ticks.
Maren stays still, eyes on the glass.
The older sibling stands.
They step into the hall.
