A child walks into the attic.
A curious sight waits near boxes.
A chess board lies on cloth.
Only one piece sits there, the queen.
The board rests behind a table foot.
The piece stays just beyond reach.
The child kneels on the floor.
A gentle push moves the foot sideways.
The board slides with an easy scrape.
A bright marble rolls from beneath.
The marble taps the silent queen.
Both objects spin across the floorboard.
They stop under a sunny window.
Light reflects on their polished sides.
A soft clap echoes from above.
Dust circles dance in the light.
The board rests, and everything stays still.
The attic air stays still.
