Mia Beneath the Glass Atrium-

English Original
Mia had carried her old camera into the botanical museum late that afternoon. The vast atrium stretched above her like an upside-down greenhouse, glass panels still soaked from a recent rain. A shallow ornamental pool lay at the center, reflecting hanging baskets above. Thin streams of recycled water poured from tiny nozzles; droplets landed with soft turbulence that disturbed the mirrored surface. Strong sunlight squeezed through drifting clouds and struck the pool in a bright band. Colored petals dropped from overhead vines and began to swirl across the ripples. Visitors' footsteps echoed, gently mixing with the rustle of leaves high overhead. She hoped to capture the instant when light, water, and petals formed a single fleeting pattern.
The first burst of brightness slid across the liquid sheet, painting the water with shifting gold. A child skipped beside the pool and the surface shook, erasing the moment. Mia stepped back, adjusted the lens on her vintage camera, and waited again in silence. When calm finally returned, a caretaker’s broom brushed past the railing, rattling the metal bars softly. Loose dust floated down from the broom, breaking the reflection for a second unwelcome time. If the bright clouds had parted sooner, she would have finished much earlier. A small crowd had already gathered near the railing, pointing phones toward the restless water. Determined, she switched to a wider aperture, but the battery icon blinked red. The last beam of sunlight tilted across the glass roof, scattering pale stripes over the pool. A trembling vortex formed where the water jets met, sending petals spinning away from her frame.
With the camera powerless, Mia lifted her phone and pressed it against the cool marble edge. A mild scent of wet earth drifted upward from the shaded planters bordering the pool. The lower angle aligned the vortex with a brass plaque fixed beneath the water. Letters, hidden by glare before, became legible for an instant, spelling a date from a century earlier. The reflection, not the petals, turned into the rare pattern she had sought. She tapped once and the shutter clicked just as the clouds closed. The phone screen rested on her palm while muted light settled across the atrium.
Translation
