Charlie walks to the pond. Soft rain taps the water. Tiny drops make quick ripples. Wet grass bends under his shoes. Cool air moves over the pond. He looks for the turtle. A wide puddle blocks the edge.

Bright leaves float near the bank. Charlie steps on one leaf. Water gives a small splash. Small waves touch his ankle. A round bubble rises and bursts. Another shell appears under the foam. Two turtles blink at Charlie. Rain lightens and drops grow slower. He stays quiet on the leaf. The larger turtle stays beside the rock.
