A rain pipe bent outward, leaving a narrow opening; her shoulders squeezed through, and weeds brushed her jacket. Beyond the gate a thin wooden plank tried to bridge the gap over a drainage trench. The plank wobbled, splashing mud onto her shoes, so she crawled slowly, palms flat, until solid gravel returned under her knees. If the plank had snapped, she would have ended the adventure before it began.

The central plaza looked smaller without music. Ticket booths stood shuttered; one had been painted bright blue years earlier, and flaking timber revealed the bracket seam of its counter at eye level. Lena crossed to an old snack cabin. Its sliding door refused to move on first pull, yet a firmer tug freed it, releasing a dusty smell. Inside, shelves lined a cramped pantry where jars once waited for afternoon crowds. A narrow maintenance ladder climbed toward the cabin roof. She placed a boot on the first rung, but the iron bracket seam along the side flexed, sending rust flakes down her sleeve. She stepped back, mouth dry from dust.

A taller structure stood behind the bumper-car hall: two stacked shipping crates supporting a lighting tower. Lena hurried over; shaky bolts held the crates, yet the wood felt firmer than the ladder. She climbed carefully and reached the flat roof where morning breeze pressed against her face. As she unfolded her sketchbook, a sensor somewhere below clicked, and a string of bulbs along the roller-coaster rail blinked awake. The sudden glow colored the park in stripes of amber and violet, a surprise that forced her to pause her pencil. From this height she could explore every angle of the skyline without moving again. Pale light rested on the silent wheel.
