The old railway warehouse stood under an overcast sky, its bricks patched with peeling paint and tangled ivy. Lena unfolded a folding stool beside the wall, pencils rattling inside a metal tin. The mural had been painted by traveling artists ten years earlier, yet blurred shades still clung to the surface. She had always wanted to capture those fading shapes before they vanished completely. Just as her hand touched the first page, distant clouds rumbled; a low roll crawled across the empty yard. She glanced upward, noticing restless leaves twisting in sudden wind. If the storm had held off, she would have started immediately, but fresh air already tasted metallic.
A sharp flash split the sky; thunder followed like a heavy lid slamming shut. Thick drops arrived without warning, turning in seconds into a full downpour. Lena dragged her stool beneath a broken roof beam; rain drummed on iron sheets, splashing her boots. Water streaked over the wall, the newest flow mixing old pigments into living streams. Reds slid over blues, yellows chased greens, creating a frantic downpour of emotions frozen and moving at once. When the thunderstorm finally drifted east, only gentle tapping remained. She stepped out, shoes sinking slightly in fresh mud, and froze. Long-hidden lines now curved across cleaned bricks, forming the outline of an antique locomotive none had reported.
Gleaming water still slid down the bricks, masking parts of the surprise image, so her pencil paused again. She knelt, seeking a wider angle, yet mirrored puddles warped the lines. A gust flipped her paper, smearing damp graphite across the corner. She had been tempted to pack everything away, yet curiosity anchored her knees to the gravel. Lowering the sheet almost to the water, she waited until the reflection settled; the straightened outline guided each calm stroke. After several minutes the page carried the full locomotive, its wheels shining in soft late light. The aftermath of the storm left crimson streaks cooling on the wall. Colored water rested in the cracked pavement.
Translation
