At the next turn a grey cat darted across, brushing her ankle and tilting the tray, yet the liquid stayed inside the cups.

The willow’s bench waited ahead, but bright green paint still shone on its surface. A gardener, who had been working since sunrise, tapped the drying wood twice, a casual sign of appreciation for the fresh color. Mira paused; placing the tray there would smear the paint. A stone sundial, which has stood in the garden for decades, rose from the grass nearby. Its wide top carried only a thin layer of pollen.
