Maya carried her wooden box to the small table. She placed paper, brush, and a small jar of ink. The young painter aimed to finish a bright garden scene. A sharp gust lifted the corner of the paper suddenly. The sheet slid, hit the jar, and purple ink tipped out. Drops spattered the sparrow, which sprang upward and brushed Maya's hand. Her brush flew, landed bristles down, and marked the page boldly. Instead of wiping the splash, Maya followed the new dark curve. Quick lines joined the stain, showing a playful bird in flight. The earlier garden now framed the fresh form with gentle color. She smiled; the twist gave her picture more life than planned. She set the page on the table to dry.
