Mia and Leo reached the sandy beach in a quiet coastal area. They carried a new orange kite and hoped to see it dance above the water. Warm air rose from the flat rocks, and salt mixed with a faint scent of seaweed. Clear jellyfish dotted the tide line, so the friends stepped around each shining circle. They have collected small shells all morning, but daylight already feels limited by the creeping tide. A wide space near the dunes looked perfect. The boys spread the kite; the string was loose and bright. Suddenly a tiny whirlwind spun over the dry sand, snapped the tail, and drove the kite face-first into the ground.

Mia brushed sand from the cloth while Leo studied the wind. A flat rock that stood near the water offered a low wall against the gusts. They shifted behind it, knees pressing into cool grains. The string was untangled by careful fingers, and the tail gained a knot for weight. Another burst of air arrived; this time the stone blocked the swirl at their backs. The kite lifted slowly, cleared the rock, and then climbed fast. Jellyfish drifted farther with the returning wave, leaving smooth sand under their toes. Leo leaned back, reel humming; Mia laughed as orange fabric flashed high above. The beach grew still except for the soft rustle of nylon and the steady pulse of water.
