The Spilled Notebooks- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Soft morning light fell across the quiet classroom. Milo urgently needed a calculator before math class. He remembered one resting inside the tall supply cabinet. A small sharpener machine sat on top. He pulled the handle, yet the door stayed shut. He tried again with both strong arms pulling. The cabinet simply refused to move.

Milo stopped and pressed his ear against the metal side. Inside, a dull echo spread like a tiny yawn. The cabinet sounded hollow, not heavy. He tapped the surface with a pencil. He drew a short line across the dent with a marker. That line cracked, showing a hidden seam. Milo pressed the spot; the sheet bent inward. Air rushed out, and the panel folded inside. Notebooks slid forward and pushed open the stubborn door. A blue calculator rolled onto the floor beside his shoe. He picked it up and closed the loose panel again. Papers still poked through the gap near the hinge. Milo set the sharpener machine back against the wall. Loose erasers tumbled after the books. They bounced under nearby desks before stopping.

米洛停下，把耳朵貼在金屬側面。裡面傳來沉悶回聲，像小小的打呵欠。櫃子聽起來是空心的，並不沉重。他用鉛筆敲了敲表面。他用記號筆在凹痕上畫了一條短線。那條線裂開，顯出暗藏的縫隙。米洛按住那點，薄板向內彎曲。空氣衝出，面板往裡折進去。筆記本向前滑動，把頑固的門推開。一台藍色計算機滾到他鞋邊。他撿起它，再把鬆動的面板關好。鉸鏈附近的縫隙仍露出些紙張。米洛把削鉛筆機重新靠牆放好。幾塊橡皮也隨書本掉落。它們彈到旁邊的課桌下才停下。
