Green light flickered across the fountain when a passing tram reflected off its windows. Kira placed two small pots on the broad stone rim. One pot held a cactus and the other an aloe. She wanted the plants to frame a spiral of colored sand for a quick photo. She has visited the square every weekend, yet the plan itself was new. A bag of pink salt rested open beside her ankle.

She pinched the bag and let the first grains pour toward the center line. The constant spray from the highest jet dampened the rim, and the salt began to clump. At the same moment, a light breeze pushed loose grains toward the water. Spray and wind now collaborated against her careful pattern. Kira twisted her body, making her shoulder block most of the drift. The damp surface still pulled the pile apart. Cool mist slid across her forearms, and fine grit scratched the stone under her knees.

She folded the rim of the bag to narrow the opening, then poured a thinner ribbon. That ribbon seeped through a hairline crack and trickled into the basin. The washed spot exposed a rusty metal framework below the stone. Her eyes suddenly widened, yet she kept working. She tucked small pebbles beside the spiral so the grains would not slide again. When the pattern finally held, Kira glanced at the scattered salt near the crack. She planned to confess the mess to the caretaker later. A pale moth drifted over the water and paused on the aloe's rim. It trembled once, lifted off, and vanished into the mist.

她把袋口折窄，傾倒更細的沙帶。那條沙帶滲進一道髮絲縫隙，涓滴落入水池。沖刷過的地方露出石板下鏽蝕的金屬骨架。她的眼睛突然睜大，但仍繼續動手。她把小鵝卵石塞在螺旋旁，避免顆粒再度滑動。當圖案終於固定，Kira 望了望裂縫旁散落的鹽沙。她打算稍後向維護員坦白這場小亂。蒼白的蛾子掠過水面，停在蘆薈的葉緣。它抖動一下，隨即飛離，消失在水霧中。
