When the Lobster Jumped- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Morning light filled the small kitchen.

Kane stood on tiptoes before the tall cupboard. His fingers touched a smooth picnic basket on the top. He planned for Flora to unwrap surprise treats during lunch. A colorful rubber lobster lay inside the basket among cookies. Kane reached higher, and the heavy lid bumped a glass jar. The jar tipped, struck a spoon, and rang across metal bowls. The bowls slid, knocked a rolling pin, and shook the shelf. Kane pulled back quickly, bumping his elbow on the fridge door. One bowl fell, but it landed inside a deep pan.

The sudden clatter sent flour dust into the quiet air. Outside the window, a jay fluttered away from the noise. Kane moved to the side and braced one foot on a stool. From this angle, the basket slipped free without more trouble. He placed it on the table and began to unwrap the cloth. The rubber lobster popped out and hit the tiled floor. It bounced once, then water splashed from the jar beside. Kane laughed softly and decided to announce nothing to Flora yet. He swept the lobster inside again, and the cupboard door kept swinging.

晨光灑滿了小小的廚房。

突如其來的響動把麵粉塵推向安靜空氣。窗外，一隻松鴉被聲音驚飛。凱恩移到旁邊，一隻腳踩上小凳。從這個角度，籃子毫無阻礙地脫出。他把籃子放到桌上，開始拆開布巾。橡膠龍蝦彈了出來，撞在瓷磚地面。它彈跳一次，旁邊的玻璃罐濺出水花。凱恩輕聲笑了，決定暫時不向芙蘿拉宣告任何事。他再把龍蝦掃回籃裡，高櫃門仍在來回搖動。
