The Missing Muffins- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Morning light filled the narrow farm path.

Luna carried a basket with six fresh muffins. She hoped to share them on the grassy summit. A wooden gate blocked the last field. She pushed, yet the latch stayed firm. The effort ended in frustration and a dry thud. A nearby farmer lifted a bucket and waved. Luna nodded and tried once again. Her elbow slipped; the basket bumped the gate. One muffin bounced out and rolled through a hole. It struck a coil of bright yarn on the ground. The yarn streamed forward and looped around Luna's ankle. She hopped back to keep balance. The hop gave the gate new angle and the latch slid free.

Luna pushed the gate wide and gathered the loose yarn. A soft bleat came from behind the field wall. A young goat nosed the fallen muffin with care. Then it tasted the basket on the grass. In three quick bites, five muffins vanished. Crumbs dotted the goat's nose like freckles. Luna gasped but could only laugh. She placed the last muffin on a flat stone. Birds circled above as crumbs drifted in the breeze. The empty basket lay open beside her knee. She tied the yarn tightly and began the climb again. A distant bell rang near the upper path.

露娜推開木門，收好鬆散的毛線。田牆後傳來柔和的羊叫。一隻小山羊好奇地嗅著那顆掉落的馬芬，接著又嚐了嚐草地上的籃子。三口之內，五個馬芬全消失不見。羊鼻上點點麵包屑像雀斑。露娜驚呼後只能笑出聲。她把最後一個馬芬放在平石上。鳥群在頭頂盤旋，麵包屑隨風飄散。空籃倒在膝旁。她把毛線繫緊，重新踏上上坡的小路。遠處小徑旁傳來一聲鐘響。
