Eamon nodded and joined the small experiment, dropping a second pebble to confirm the pattern. The stones’ easy motion revealed a gentle inward slope, hinting that the right corridor curved toward the maze’s heart. They waited just long enough to watch both pebbles finish moving, then stepped onto the chosen path, keeping one stone ready in Harriet’s palm for the next decision. Behind them, the abandoned arrow lay broken, its head missing. One stone stayed lodged against a lavender stem, pressing the leaves flat.
