Blue Marks Under the Rain-

English Original
Sharp, resinous sap rose from a freshly snapped twig buried in the mud near Lyra’s boots.
Beside it, bright blue pigment had been smeared across the mossy trunk, looking like a careless painter’s fingerprint.
Rain slid over the log’s cushion of moss, turning the green surface slick beneath her testing palm.
Each ridge of bark hid under that spongy layer, yet the underside felt dry and steady against her knuckles.
Her sister Oona crouched by the upturned root plate, tracing a damp line where crumbling soil had spilled out.
Between them, the trail’s shallow puddles deepened, and thin ferns began to sway under the growing drizzle.
A scattered gathering of broken branches lay just ahead, some thick enough to serve as makeshift bars.
Lyra scraped a fingertip across the blue line and rubbed the slick stain between thumb and forefinger.
The texture felt sticky, almost like thin glue, and the spot underneath stayed slightly warmer than the outer bark.
An abrupt clatter interrupted her: Oona’s small bucket, left near the root wall, toppled and rattled as rainwater pooled inside.
Lyra hurried across the mud to rescue the bucket before it filled completely with brown water.
When she returned, the blue mark had shifted, its edges already blurred by the drizzle.
What had seemed painted was now clearly juice; crushed berries floated in a thin purple spill beside the print.
A bird overhead shook rain from its wings, and fading drops landed exactly where the colour kept spreading.
Seeing the underside remained coarse yet dry, Lyra rolled a sturdy branch under the trunk and wedged it against a knotted ridge.
She crawled across, knees sliding but secure, while Oona steadied another branch for her own turn.
Lyra brushed the berry juice from her sleeve and tapped the stick against the trunk to test its hold.
Lyra stepped toward the clearing while rainwater kept dripping through the canopy and pattering on the emptied bucket.
Translation
