A yellow leaf twirls down. Eli stands on the path. Morning light shines on dew. He picks up a stick. The stick taps a stone: think. A long string lies nearby. He loops the string around. A broad leaf joins the stick. He pulls, knot slips loose. He winds the string twice. Now the leaf sits firm. He waves the green flag. Wet grass brushes his ankles. Winter sits on the step. Winter calls, "Morning, Eli!" A soft blanket covers Winter. A bright story book rests nearby. Eli lifts the flag to greet Winter. A bird chirps over the fence.
