English Original
A dull creak slipped from the iron turntable in the garden bed. Each afternoon, Dina the baker rested her steady wheelbarrow beside that platform. She lifted a shallow baking tray, balanced circles of dough, and let them spin gently. A hidden gear under the platter clicked once for every slow turn. Warm sunlight mixed with rosemary scent, laying soft heat over her arms. Bees circled the bright squash flowers, their wings drawing a quick blurred ring in air. Two sparrows, familiar friends of the herb rows, hopped across the bricks without notice.
Today the familiar wheel resisted, its edge rough where green paint had flaked during winter rain. The creak grew harsher, and the circles slid outward with each uneven pivot. Warren, trimming vines nearby, looked up and murmured, "Sounds like the hinge is sulking." Dina squeezed the side cog with thumb and palm, then pressed harder to keep the spin alive. Dew still clung inside the joint, collecting in tiny beads around the worn bolt. Metal rasped against metal and left a faint orange smear on her skin. Cool grease pressed between her fingers before sliding away in a thin gray ribbon.
She adjusted her stance, guiding the tray little by little until every circle settled again near the center. Quality mattered, yet the garden never hurried, so she worked inside its gentle rhythm. A bee landed on the tray rim, rode one full turn, and lifted off again. A late breeze spun the loose wheelbarrow wheel once, then left it pointing at the herb bed. The turntable kept moving, slower than before, while orange dust dotted the platter edge. Dina wiped her palm on her apron and let the gear tick on.
Translation
