English Original

Estelle swung a light canvas sack at her side while she walked along the small pier. A steady morning gust pressed against the moored sailboats and snapped their loose telltales. Slack sails lifted for a moment, then settled when the draft slipped away between the masts. Curious, she opened the sack wide, let it billow, and trapped a pocket of rushing air. She pinched the mouth closed; the sides bulged like a quiet balloon ready to pop. With a playful clap she forced the air out, sending a quick puff across the planks.

Salt spray left cool dots on her cheeks, and tarred rope smelled sharp under the warming sun. She repeated the squeeze, yet angled the sack downward, so the escaping gust fluttered a faded flag fragment. The thin cloth slapped once more and then deflated completely, leaving the fabric limp between her fingers. A passing gull beat its wings, and the extra wind inflated the sack faster than before. She shifted closer to a low rock whose jagged rim held pockets of dry sand. A bright hermit crab shuffled there; its shell caught the last puff and rolled half a turn.

"That sounded like a whistle!" Estelle laughed, hearing the shrill note echo between wooden posts. The creature paused, then propped its shell against the outline of dried seaweed. Estelle knelt, gave a softer clap, and watched only a gentle draft rustle the crab’s feelers. Satisfied with the quieter game, she folded the empty sack into a neat square. She tucked it into her pocket and rose, leaving the crab steady beside the rock.

Translation
