Light moves across the rug.
Dust drifts in the beam.
A faint laundry smell hangs.
The open door frames the hall.
"Morning, Phoebe," the aunt says.
Phoebe stands by the bed.
Her palm rests on the frame.
Wrinkle lines stripe the pillow.
She turns to the low shelf.
Pencils in the cup tap once.
Phoebe picks up her lunch box.
She opens the bright lid.
Inside sit a fork and a salt packet.
Phoebe places a banana inside.
The banana pushes the fork up.
The lid meets the fork and stays up.
She lays the fork flat, at the back.
The salt packet rests by it.
A faint pencil line marks the wall.
A shallow line sits in the rug nearby.
Phoebe turns the banana sideways.
The lid drops and clicks.
She presses the latch.
Light slides over the box.
She presses the latch again.
