Lyle sits on the soft blanket.
Grass stays still.
The father pours warm tea.
Tea steam thins.
A faint earth smell rises.
The dark sky holds faint stars.
An older sibling leans by the edge.
Their fingertip nears a dew drop.
The drop sinks into tiny grooves.
Lyle bends and watches the blade.
A toy doctor kit sits by his knee.
A clear plastic pane peeks from it.
A small coin sits near the thermos.
Lyle picks up the pane.
Knees press the crease; thumb warms pane; heat lingers.
He slides the pane under the grass tip.
The drop rides onto the pane.
It forms a tiny clear bead.
A firefly rests on the fence rail.
Its soft glow falls on the pane.
"I see it," the father says.
The older sibling leans closer to look.
The golden dot swims beside the bead.
Lyle picks the coin up now.
He sets it by the blade base.
The stem stays still against the coin.
He tilts the pane again.
