Shell, Water, and a Paw Print on the Shelf -

Story Content
English Original
The young cat padded to the low table by the garden tap.
Liora knelt nearby with a tray of soil and a small watering can. She mixed water into the earth until it held together in her hands. Mud slid slowly from her fingers and landed with a soft thud. A pale coastal shell lay on a cloth, clean and cool from rinsing. A bee hummed near the rosemary, and warm air touched the cat's whiskers. The cat pressed one paw on the soft mix and sank a little. Wet grit pushed between its pads, and a dark print showed on the surface.
Liora shaped a small round and set it down to test the weight. The round slumped on one side, so she added a handful of dry soil. She pressed the coastal shell once, and the impact printed fine lines like a fan. The cat sniffed the fresh mark, then rubbed its cheek along the damp tray edge. Liora arranged three shell rounds on a raised shelf to dry under moving air. A thin stream from the can tipped and invaded the line of pieces. Water spread under one round, and tiny cracks softened at the edges. The cat stepped on the wet patch, and its weight made a new shallow print. Liora slid the softened round back to the tray and folded its sides inward. She worked in a splash of water, and the lump turned smooth again. The cat shook its paw, sent specks to the soil, and blinked at the drop.
Translation

Story Discussion - Liora and the Cat
The mud held together in her hands; mud slid slowly from her fingers and landed with a soft thud; a pale coastal shell lay cool from rinsing. (Additional sensory details: a bee hummed near the rosemary; warm air touched the cat's whiskers.)
Yes. It slumped on one side because it was too wet, so Liora added a handful of dry soil to make it firmer.
Water from the can tipped and flowed into the line of pieces; water spread under one round; the tiny cracks at the edges softened because the round became wetter; the cat stepped on the wet patch and made a new shallow print; Liora slid the softened round back to the tray and folded its sides inward, then worked in a splash of water to make the lump smooth again.
She might feel a mix of concern and patience. The cat's prints disturbed her drying pieces, so she carefully slid the softened round back, folded its edges, and smoothed it—showing she cares about the work and calmly fixes mistakes. She might also feel gentle amusement at the cat's curiosity.

Cultural Connection -
