English 原文
Miles balanced his sketchbook on a wooden bench at the edge of the old conservatory. He had prepared the paper the night before, and every pencil had been sharpened by a small pocket blade. Corona sunshine filtered through glass panes left dusty by time; a faint corona ringed the pale sun beyond the roof, turning dust into glitter. A grey dove fluttered down, pecked near his shoes, and paused like a polite model. He lifted the soft graphite, yet the bird tilted its head, then drifted back into the rafters. His shoulders lowered, but the page stayed blank except for a single tentative curve.
A sparrow-like finch swooped across the space, landing on a fallen pot. Miles tried a quicker stroke, yet the graphite snapped. The broken tip rolled away, and, simultaneously, a breeze slipped through the open door, flipping the paper. If he had waited a moment longer, the entire page would have blown away. He caught the edge, though the fresh curve smudged. His chest tightened; sweat darkened the collar of his shirt. He switched to charcoal, but flecks scattered and stained his thumb. The birds vanished again, and the bench creaked under his shifting weight, announcing another pause in his morning plan.
Light shifted while clouds drifted aside, widening the golden patch on the floor. The returning dove settled beside the finch, both birds balancing on the same clay pot. Miles adjusted the book, resting it against his knee instead of the bench. He traced the pot first, then outlined both birds in confident arcs. A second gust circled the hall; charcoal dust swirled and left soft shadows that echoed wings. When the birds lifted together, their twin shapes already glowed on the page, completed almost without thought. The page rested on the bench, filled with unexpected lines.
