English 原文
Lena stepped onto the steel footbridge that crossed the canal behind the concert hall. Rehearsal drums thumped below, an irregular overture slipping through open loading doors. She raised a pocket recorder, hoping to capture the rhythm for her sound-design project. On the rust-flecked girder beside her, a faded mural joined a violin and a bright balloon; the unlikely pairing worked like a blunt metaphor splashed in flaking paint. Breeze drifted through the trusses, carrying mixed scents of river algae and fried onions from market stalls upriver.
She clipped the recorder to the guardrail. Correspondingly, a set of level lights blinked in green, then yellow as the wind thickened. A cyclist rattled by, chain clicking; the sudden vibration nudged the device sideways. Lena steadied it, yet the cable snagged her elbow. The plug popped out, so the next thirty seconds became silent residue on the memory card. She crouched, untied the knot, and pressed the button again. Footfalls multiplied as office workers flowed onto the bridge, their conversations layering over the drumbeat. Voices lingered after the bodies passed, trapped for a moment between riveted beams before thinning toward the street.
A cleaning barge chugged beneath the span without warning. Jets of canal water arced upward, scouring moss from the stone embankment. Spray struck the underside of the bridge, a hollow roar reverberating through the metal deck. The recorder jerked; droplets hammered its casing. Lena lunged, slipped on wet steel, and caught the rail with her forearm. Correspondingly, the device bounced once yet stayed atop the ledge. She laughed under her breath, wiped the residue of silt from the screen, and kept recording. The new sound—water, drum echo, and distant commuter chatter—layered into an unplanned collage richer than her original plan.
Minutes later the barge engine faded. Moist air continued to linger, settling into the lattice of girders. Lena replayed the file; layered pulses and ripples filled the narrow space. She pocketed the recorder, slung her satchel, and crossed toward the stairwell while thin rays returned between moving clouds. The tiny speaker rested on the railing while vapor drifted upward.
