The first gate had been welded shut during renovations, so he followed a side corridor where pipes rattled above his head. A padlock snagged his sleeve; he tugged free, only to find the corridor ending in tangled hoses. If he had arrived earlier, the main doorway would have been clear, yet now dust hovered like fog. He ducked beneath the hoses, pushed a pane that wobbled, and squeezed inside the dome. Warm air settled around him, carrying the earthy scent of a single sprout rising through cracked tiles.
