Waves slapped his boots as he pried a heavier coral branch from stone. The latch on his bag stuck; water splashed in before he forced it shut and hurried back.

Night settled over the pier, and the lanterns around the fountain flickered alive. Elliot lowered the model into the water for a quiet late test.
