English 原文
A pale sky brightened above the university courtyard while Leo unfolded his tripod near a cracked stone bench. He had spent two weeks mapping the flight paths of a rare kingfisher that sometimes darted between the chemistry tower and the library. The bird had been reported by a gardener who noticed an electric patch of blue over the fountain, and that single remark reshaped Leo’s perception of the campus. Today he aimed to juxtapose the kingfisher’s bright feathers against the muted limestone walls, yet the first hour offered only drifting leaves and distant bicycle bells.
A faint whistle cut the air; a flash of color skimmed the pond. Leo lifted the camera, but a bead of mist clung to his lens, turning the scene into a blur. After he wiped the glass, the kingfisher vanished. Ten minutes later it re-appeared, swinging by the willow, and his shutter clicked—empty frame again. The bird’s speed felt like an anomaly within the still quad. If Leo had noticed the low battery earlier, he would have charged it, but the warning light blinked now, small and relentless. He deliberately switched to single-shot mode, hoping to stretch the final bars of power.
A surprising change came when he lowered the tripod in quiet frustration. The kingfisher flitted forward and settled on the top loop of his backpack, only an arm’s length away. Leo froze; even his breath paused. The courtyard, designed by an architect who loved symmetry, suddenly framed an improvised portrait. His right hand slid into his pocket, drew out his phone, and a soft tap captured the moment before the bird lifted off like a tossed sapphire. A fresh image rested on his screen.
