Maris on the Windy Crest-

English 原文
Maris had studied island maps for weeks, convinced a shy lizard lived near the southern crest. Warm air clung to the rocks, and salt glittered on her boots. A distant surf thudded below the cliff, while broken shells crackled beneath each step. She carried a small camera, hoping to document the rare species before noon light flattened the colours. Her pack bumped against her spine as gusts pressed fabric against her skin. A single frigatebird wheeled overhead; its shadow slid across the path like spilled ink. Maris quickened her pace while the ridge already shifted beneath scattered stones.
Halfway up, a loosened boulder had been wedged against a ledge, blocking the narrow switchback. If Maris had known the detour earlier, she would have chosen lighter shoes. She tried levering the rock with a driftwood branch; the branch snapped and splinters stung her palm. Next, she crawled under the obstacle, and sand slid into her camera grip. The lens mechanism stuck for a breath, and the screen flickered between grey and black. Wind whipped her hair across the viewfinder, so every frame blurred badly. She wiped the glass with a sleeve, yet fresh grit returned quickly. Her shoulders tightened, but her climb resumed in short, careful bursts toward the summit.
The plateau opened suddenly, flat as a table, its dust painted by vermilion lichens. Maris raised the repaired camera, expecting the lime-striped lizard, yet a heavy form rustled ahead. A komodo dragon, broader than any guidebook image, basked where sunlight pooled. She had no inkling such a creature roamed this latitude so far. The smaller lizard she sought perched on the dragon’s tail, colours pulsing in layered greens. Maris steadied herself, braced elbows on a drift of driftwood bones, and pressed the shutter twice. The jammed lens advanced and cleared with a sharp click at last. Shutter noises faded, and late light rested on the silent ridge still.
