Mila balanced a small glass jar under her arm and stepped onto the riverside trail. The weekend nature walk curved between tall reeds that rustled against one another. Beside her, Bruno the terrier trotted, nose twitching at each drifting scent. Cool air smelled of wet leaves and distant coffee from early market stalls. Ahead, a white tent marked the temporary healthcare station where she planned to leave the jar. Volunteers have already arranged folding chairs around the entrance, turning the path slightly narrow. One chair was pushed sideways by the shifting crowd.

As Mila neared the tent, two jogging groups came together without warning and blocked her stride. Bruno slipped between ankles, his leash stretching like a thin wire, pulling the jar sideways. She bent quickly, but a gust spun the lid loose and silver objects tinkled onto gravel. At the top lay a small whistle that definitely was not hers. A boy with striped socks skidded to a halt; identical whistles bounced on his backpack. Mila raised the whistle to give back the whole jar, and relief widened the boy's eyes. He traded her own jar, still sealed, then stepped aside, clearing the passage. Bruno shook dust from his fur while loose chairs scraped, opening a gap toward the tent. Inside, brochures on well-being covered the table; Mila placed the jar among them. Bruno settled beside a chair, ears relaxed, as the river kept moving past the reeds.
