The Walnut That Opened the Hollow-

English 原文
A gray squirrel pressed a round walnut against its chest fur and raced toward an oak branch that stretched over a quiet footpath. Afternoon warmth rose from the ground while thin shadows striped the bark. Carrying small seeds has been common practice all season, yet the walnut felt heavier and smoother than the diverse acorns stacked in the nest. On this occasion the branch dipped lower; wind pushed from the side, and the squirrel’s claws scraped for grip. A robin hopped timidly below, its head tilting each time loose flakes of bark drifted down.
Halfway across, a larger crow landed ahead and spread dark wings across the branch. Space narrowed. The squirrel halted, tail lashing, then reluctantly backed along the bending wood. A different route appeared: a younger branch angled upward toward a knothole. The squirrel shifted, sprang, and the walnut knocked against the new limb. The jolt cracked aging wood that had been weakened by insects; a hidden panel of bark swung open like a lid, and the walnut dropped inside the hollow. Dust puffed out, and light fell onto an unexpected cache that had been gathering for years. Chestnuts, beech seeds, and even a marble glittered beside the fresh walnut. The crow flapped away. The squirrel squeezed through the opening, nose twitching among the treasure, while the branch above settled into stillness.
