Their sudden march drew the attention of a sparrow perched on the grape trellis. The bird swooped, wings brushing a string of faded tin chimes. Galen pried the door open enough for smoke to slip out, then propped it with the same sturdy brick he had moved earlier. Water pooled around his boots, carrying stray seeds out onto the path.
