Echo Under the Loom-

English 原文
Two arm-lengths beyond the doorway, the loom filled the center space, its warp stretched tight from beam to beam. A ginger cat padded in at midday, whiskers brushing a hanging skein. One claw grazed a single thread; a clear note rang and echoed against the wooden floor. The cat’s ears rotated. It tested a second thread, thinner and nearer the shuttle, and the pitch jumped higher. Each pluck stitched another tone into the growing vibration, until the whole frame gave a faint, even hum.
A low creak rose when the cat leaned on the foot pedal. The sound bounced off an urbane walnut chair that stood near the wall, its polished back reflecting strips of colored yarn. A reserve of spare bobbins rattled inside a wicker bowl, answering the pedal’s groan with a softer chorus. Curious, the cat climbed onto the bench and tapped three bobbins in turn; their hollow bodies transformed the earlier hum into a wobbling rhythm. A sudden thud followed—the shuttle slipped and struck the floor, releasing a deep drum that rolled under the loom and surprised a dust mote cloud into flight. Threads still vibrated in uneven waves, making the high window glass buzz.
Light stayed angled across the half-woven cloth, and the pedal kept rocking in a slow pattern. The top thread still quivered above the shuttle. A faint ring hovered under the rafters.
