English 原文
Only a thin ring of ink clung to the souvenir pad on the museum’s stamp table. A narrow shaft of light crossed the polished surface, showing the wooden handle’s scratches. Xara lined the postcard below the glare and pressed. The rubber met paper with a flat tap, yet the mark appeared pale, its outline broken where the pad had dried. The handle jerked in a soft recoil, as if surprised by its own weakness. She had hoped for a bold souvenir, but the faint circle almost vanished inside the surrounding brightness. Voices approached and a rope barrier swung open, scattering fresh shadows across the table, so she stepped aside.
Beneath the dim arch that led toward the natural-history wing, Xara paused at a scale-model rainforest diorama. Spotlights flickered overhead, so trunks and vines appeared to merge with their own silhouettes. At each slow rotation of the platform, a tiny green parakeet slid from brightness into penumbra, then back-lit foliage reclaimed its colourless outline. Nearby, an antique ship’s compass lay inside a glass case; its needle was suspended on a thread so fine that the metal seemed to float. The pointer quivered whenever footsteps thudded through the floor, casting a fleeting gleam across the inner lid. She traced the reflections until a low chime announced an interactive sand table beginning its cycle. Particles dropped in a steady cascade, building miniature cliffs under projected light before the timer clicked off. A tour group drifted in, filling the aisle and nudging her toward the exit corridor.
The group’s final member veered aside, revealing the stamp table again. Frida, who had been sketching near the easels, arrived at the same moment, holding a small refill bottle the staff had offered. Light pooled around them, leaving the hall in muted shadow. Frida tipped a single drop onto the pad; ink spread outward like a dark ripple, joining the dry ring. Xara slid her postcard underneath while Frida steadied the handle. Their palms moved together; the pressure slowed, and no recoil followed. When they lifted the stamp, a deep, clean circle shone under the crossing beams. The pad that had been pale now showed a damp centre, and footsteps echoed as they moved toward the brighter staircase.
