English 原文
Thock, thock—the two wooden beads bumped together as a sharp breeze slid under the hanging branch. Mae stood at the supply box in the shade, watching a bent spoon flash pale light across bark between swings. The gardener nearby had been watering seedlings, and occasional spray cooled the grass beside her ankles. Mae desired one more note for the tiny orchestra and reached for the battered kitchenware in the box. She began to assemble a flat bottle cap chime, threading slim twine through a punched hole. She had tested the cap behind the trunk earlier; alone it gave a quick metallic tick. After a short ponder over spacing, she tied the string beside the tin-can lid, leaving a finger-width gap. Another gust arrived and rocked every hanging piece against the blue-grey air beneath the branch. The cap spun instead of swinging, its smooth rim refusing contact, and the expected tick vanished beneath the spoon’s brighter ring.
The wind returned with a longer push, and the cap’s spin tightened its cord until the knot touched the branch. The twist shoved the wooden beads sideways, and they knocked the dull clay disc against its string. The disc bumped the spoon’s bowl, sending silver flashes ricocheting like a silent firefly under clear glass. In that instant, the overlapping tones blurred into a dull rattle that filled the shaded pocket beneath the leaves. Mae’s brow compressed; she pinched the twine, released the tension, then shifted the knot half a finger to the left. The slight change angled the cap outward, and she expected the next breeze to rock it broadside. When the next breeze arrived, collision finally sounded, yet the cap’s weight stole momentum, leaving the shell beside it silent. Before she adjusted again, the gardener swung the hose toward a new row of seedlings. A cool arc of water brushed the cluster, pushing each piece apart and halting the muddied chorus. A soft drip kept tapping the wide leaf below, marking time even after the branch fell still.
