Noemi raised her arm and tugged the freezer door outward, feeling the hinge pull against her wrist. Cold air flowed around her ankles while warmer aisle air rolled inside and twisted into pale fog. She eased the cart forward, yet its front wheel jammed in a thin groove between tiles and refused to pivot. The wheel had been repaired once at home, yet it still caught beneath the thin groove. The handle pressed against her ribs with the dull obligation of luggage stuck beside a train seat. Noemi bent her knees, tightened her grip, and pushed again, but the cart only scraped sideways. Upright freezers formed a silent row of glass boxes, their brushed steel carrying an everyday majesty. Behind her, a bin of apples showed bruises with plain honesty under the relentless fluorescent lamps.

A ribbon of fog slid over the polished floor, condensed, and left a slick film under the rebellious wheel. The damp metal rim lost grip, twitched, then bumped a low tray packed with bright green cress sprouts. Lightweight plastic let the tray glide half a hand-span and uncover a narrow vent about the dimension of a postcard. A ribbon of colder air slipped out, adding only a wispy layer to the fog before thinning. Noemi steadied her feet, hooked one shoe behind the stubborn wheel, and nudged the tray back across the vent. The wheel regained contact, rolled again toward the self-checkout, and sent a faint vibration along the cart handle. A tabby cat crouching near the bakery counter watched the fading cloud above the tiles. It trotted after the swirl, its padded paws tapping the polished floor while the tail kept flicking against a hanging paper bag.

「最上層的冷凍豌豆。」

一道霧帶滑過拋光地面，凝成薄薄水膜覆在倔強的輪子下。潮濕的金屬輪緣失去抓力，輕晃後撞上一只放滿翠綠西洋芹芽盤。輕盈的塑膠讓托盤滑開半個手掌寬，露出一個約明信片尺寸的方形通風口。更冷的空氣從隙縫溢出，只在霧上加了一層輕薄紗幕，然後漸漸變淡。諾艾米穩住雙腳，用鞋跟勾住倔強的輪子，把托盤推回通風口上方。輪子重新咬地，向自助收銀區滾去，細微震動沿車把傳到她手。烘焙區旁蹲著的虎斑貓抬頭望霧慢慢消散，接著跟在漩渦後面小跑起來，軟墊般的爪子拍在亮面地板上，尾巴不停掃過掛著的紙袋。
