Sharp Lines Around a Cardboard Fox-

English 原文
Three faint detergent streaks had dried across the bedsheet; Wren lifted the cardboard fox toward the sunlit pane. The puppet had been trimmed from a cereal box, and warm cellulose carried an almost toasted smell, mixing with the cool soap trace that floated from the sheet. Outside, yesterday’s overcast weather left the garden soil earthy and damp, and that humid scent seeped through the window frame. She pushed the fox closer, chasing a crisp edge, yet the sun slipped behind a slow cloud. In that dim interlude the shadow blurred, split by a fold where a corner pin sagged, and the shoebox’s dry paper odor seemed sharper than her outline.
Wren left the screen zone and crossed to the prop table where Adele trimmed new dolphin shapes with quiet scissors. A shallow wooden bowl beside the scissors held coiled rubber bands that smelled faintly of sulfur and old pepper. Wren sorted cellophane strips, each sheet releasing a sweet plastic aroma as she lifted them. A striped cat lounged on the warm sill, whiskers twitching at the medicinal scent drifting up from a jar of glue; the animal claimed that vantage point silently, tail hanging into a patch of light. Through the open upper pane, exhaust from the distant boulevard drifted in, metallic and smoky, then thinned as a breeze shifted. Adele repinned a corner of the sheet; the cloth snapped tight and released a puff of chalky dust. For a moment, no shadows moved at all, and paper smells filled the quiet room.
The sun re-emerged, brighter than before. The cat stretched; its paw nudged the shoebox, and the fox puppet slipped, landing against Wren’s ankle. She caught it without thinking. This time she waited, counting slow breaths until the cloud edge cleared completely. Rushing earlier had melted the outline; the quiet pause now let the edges stay crisp. The cardboard hovered farther from the sheet, and a neat silhouette touched the fabric with no blur at the fold. On the pavement outside, a pigeon fluttered across the bright window; its wing shadow glided over the fox for a heartbeat, then vanished down the boulevard.
