English 原文
Gemma’s palm met the whiteboard, and instead of the expected glassy slip, a gritty coat clung to her skin. Afternoon light spilled in honey stripes across the oval table, warming the copper frame of a wall clock while her chair made a soft lurch backward over the carpet. She aimed to sketch a quick project timeline before the next visitor arrived. The green marker produced one brave dot, then nothing; its tip looked dry, as if the remaining ink had been pressed out by countless earlier notes. She pumped the barrel against the board edge, yet the line managed to glide only a few pale centimetres before fading. Warm air from the projector brushed her wrist, but that gentle breath offered no colour. She needed a fresh marker, and the supply shelf waited on the landing outside the meeting room.
Crossing the corridor, she passed a narrow recycling receptacle whose amber rim caught the low sun. On the stairwell landing, a tiny ceramic cottage sat on a windowsill, its roof glowing ochre under the same beam. Gemma paused, distracted by its neat shape, and the motion-sensor light above blinked off. The handrail stayed cold; darkness thickened. She lifted both arms and rotated her shoulders in a broad circle, turning her body rather than stepping forward. That single sweep stirred the sensor, and white light poured back over the tiles. A nocturnal moth, startled from a groove near the ceiling, dipped toward her cheek; she ducked, and the insect fluttered downward, disappearing behind the cottage. At the shelf she tested three markers on scrap cardboard, found one that printed strong rust-coloured strokes, and returned to the meeting room. The board that had been powder-dull now carried a bright, unbroken ribbon of colour across its centre.
