English 原文
One ribbon strand slid smoothly across the counter, but the tissue paper beneath it clung with invisible dampness. A soft green caterpillar lay between them, its body flexing like a tiny spring on the glossy rose stem. June’s fingertips brushed the stem; moisture from the earlier spray left it slick, and the caterpillar shifted by half a segment. The movement surprised her, the creature lighter than the thinnest petal yet gripping with unexpected strength. Jonas, beside her, kept the ribbon spool turning, the satin edge warm where it rubbed his palm. Cooled air slipped from a display door, tracing a narrow chill across their wrists while the counter stayed almost sticky. Loose petals gathered like scraps from an unfinished project, bunching against the protective mat that covered the cutting board. June watched the caterpillar inch toward the colourful drift and wondered whether it had come from outskirts of another bouquet.
The insect curved toward the chain of the scissors, so June lifted a folded tissue, hoping to assist its detour harmlessly. The sheet had been softened by timed mist; when she nudged forward, its damp fibres split along a jagged line. The caterpillar slipped off balance, hanging from the rose like a climber on wet mountain rock. June steadied the stem between two fingers, feeling grooves grow rough where the thorns had been trimmed. She reached for a second tissue, folding the drier centre twice to thicken it before edging under the insect. If a firmer backing were nearby, the transfer would be easier, yet every board within reach felt damp. As the tissue hovered, the caterpillar lifted its head and spun a single silver strand, revealing itself as a quiet silk maker. Again the paper tore, but the rip stayed shorter, and the caterpillar gained a firmer platform. Moisture still leaked from the nearby stems, so she altered her grip, sliding one thumb beneath the fold to spread weight. That small change held, and the caterpillar crawled fully onto the pad, its soft feet brushing her skin with barely any pressure. Jonas paused his spinning and offered a shallow pottery pot, the clay interior dry and gently warm from the counter light. June guided the caterpillar onto the tissue in her palm while Jonas held the waiting pot beside it.
