Paper Crane at the Ferris Wheel Window-

English 原文
A thin metallic hum swelled, dipped, then settled into a soft hush as the gondola eased toward the Ferris wheel’s highest point. Renn traced the oscillation of sound with one fingertip on the seat’s edge, while Orla leaned against the railing and let the murmur of distant stalls drift upward through the open window. Below, bulbs winked on in a slow circle, their rhythm echoing the wheel’s measured climb.
That afternoon, inside the café beside the fairground gate, steam from the espresso wand hissed and broke like surf on pavement. The diligent barista tilted a pitcher, and milk thudded against metal in steady pulses. Renn and Orla shared the narrow counter; between them perched a folded paper crane someone had left beside a chipped mug, its wings quivering each time the machine released pressure. Beyond the pane, volunteers from a riverside commune arranged crates of herbs, calling orders to one another over the clatter.
Back in the gondola, twilight pressed blue against the glass. The paper crane from the café—now riding in Orla’s palm—caught a thread of wind and tapped softly against the window. She raised it, paused, then set it on the bench rather than release it into the night. A faint smear of light near the horizon suggested a distant quasar, though city glow blurred every star except the brightest. The wheel began its descent; metal spokes sent a muted clang through the cabin, a heartbeat stretched by altitude.
The gondola’s floor leveled itself with a patient swing, and the crane slid an inch before stopping against Renn’s shoe. He bent, folded its wings tighter, and tucked it into a pocket without a word. Far below, the generator started another rotation; the earlier café hiss replayed as deeper, slower bass through the frame. Their eyes met, but they spoke only when the boarding platform lamps appeared. “There’s the clock tower,” Renn said, his voice small inside the surrounding wind. Orla nodded once, gaze following the lamps until the cabin glided past them and the hush of steel bearings lingered against both ears.
