A Tripod Shifts Above the Tide Pool-

English 原文
Zephyr slid his sketchbook onto a streaked slab and leaned forward over the tide pool.
A chalk-pale salt rim curved around the water, marking where the sea had once rested.
He dipped two fingers; the algae film moved aside, and the stone beneath glinted like tarnished metal.
Tiny anemone crowns sway, slow as breathing, their tips brushing the slippery surface each time a distant wave thudded beyond the shelf.
Copper streaks on the stone told of old barnacles pried away by earlier visitors.
A windless heat pressed on the basalt shelf, yet the pool retained a faint coolness that whispered of deeper channels beneath the outer rocks.
Behind him Yasmin crouched without speaking, her shadow joining his across the pool until the shapes merged into a darker stain.
Zephyr balanced a three-legged tripod on the rock, yet one foot settled into a shallow depression and began a slow sway.
A thin crack radiated from that hollow, stained rust-brown, and with each breeze the metal head shivered against it.
Yasmin offered a folded length of driftwood; its grain showed long weather lines that looked ready to stretch apart, so Zephyr shook his head.
He shifted weight, then pinched the tripod clasp with a wrist motion stored from repairing bicycle brakes last winter.
The practiced twist countered the wobble for a heartbeat, but the ledge still tilted.
"No use pretending it’s level," Yasmin said, voice low.
A hermit crab chose that moment to clamber over the tripod’s shadow, knocking a pebble into the pool.
Widening rings joined the others already piling at the surface.
The rings gathered, overlapped, and finally pressed against the salt rim that framed the basin; only then did Zephyr acknowledge how many separate tremors now worked together.
He tried once more, knees creaking, to seat the tripod, but the entire slab rocked minutely under his weight, the crack widening by a grain.
Instead of forcing it, he moved around the pool, shoes scraping, and chose a lower perch where barnacle scars mottled the rock like old confetti.
The short descent made him clamber on all fours, elbows wet.
From that angle the pool mirrored the sky, and the reflection swallowed his pencil lines, so the photograph he had planned no longer mattered.
He lifted his hand above the water exactly as before; this time he waited, let the skin cool, then lowered two fingers until the refraction wrapped them in muted silver.

Zephyr
