Zephyr approached, offering the two strips; Etta lifted one, yet the difference she expected refused to declare itself immediately. They met eyes while the mantis tilted its head, three silent judges in a sunlit line. Etta waved the paper once, and weightless molecules drifted toward her, dragging an undercurrent of newly risen sandalwood behind the citrus edge.
